5 Ways to Improve the Kerb Appeal of Your Home – the Spring Edit

Spring has sprung and it’s the perfect time to spruce up, shake down and show off your home, and what better place to start but from the outside.

The exterior of your home is far more than just bricks and mortar, it can be an insight into your home and what people may find inside. A home which looks bright, tidy and cared for will provide a warm welcome to your visitors and it will help boost how appealing your home looks from a distance. There’s no better time to boost your home’s kerb appeal than Spring, so we have compiled our five easy ways to help you to do exactly that:

  1. Spring Clean Your Door

Give your Hurst door a spring clean. Whether you have a Composite or UPVC door from Hurst, it’s a quick and simple process to get your door looking like new again, with our full door range finished in water resistant coatings that make them easy to maintain. We recommend washing the door and frame with warm soapy water and a lint-free cloth, followed by a quick wipe down with a dry soft, clean cloth to remove any excess water.

Don’t have a Hurst Door? A quick dust and warm soapy water works wonders to freshen up tired looking doors. Or if you are looking to really level up your kerb appeal and stand out from the crowd this Spring, you could consider a fresh look with a brand new Hurst Door.

2. Spring Garden Plants

Nothing says Spring more than flowers. Planting some vibrant Spring blooms is a brilliant way to brighten up a house and make it warm and welcoming. Add flowers to your front garden or to planters, which you can pick up from most garden centres or even supermarkets without breaking the bank. However, if you’re short on space, another alternative is a hanging basket or small plant pot either side of your front door. For real kerb appeal, try co-ordinating your flowers and planters with the colour of your front door to really make a statement – again, you can find a wide range of affordable choices in garden centres that can make a bright, beautiful and stylish difference to the exterior of your home. Some of our favourite flowers this time of year are daffodils, hyacinths, pansies, primrose, and violas.

3. Door Decoration

As well as a fresh start, Spring also symbolises a renewed sense of energy and fun, especially with the Easter holiday just around the corner. Why not get creative with your home exterior and add some spring or Easter decorations with door signs or spring wreaths? Whether they are shop bought or homemade, they’re sure to make a difference to your kerb appeal. Lacking inspiration? Don’t worry, we’ve popped together a Pinterest board to give you some ideas.

4. Add a Welcome Mat

What could be more welcoming than a welcome mat? The clue is in the name! Not only is a welcome mat a practical addition to limit outside dirt coming into your home but it’s also a really easy and affordable way to add some character and express your personality. Whether you go for the traditional ‘welcome’, the country ‘howdy’, a continental ‘bonjour’ or one that is inspired by your favourite TV show, your new mat can provide a low cost, charming way to communicate a little bit about you and your home before guests even step foot inside!

5. Out With the Old, In with the New

If you are looking to really put the ‘fresh’ into a fresh start this Spring, why not try our colour match service, allowing you to create a door colour that is completely unique to you. Think pastels, lemons, duck egg blues and lilacs for something totally different or make an impactful statement with bold blues and striking, rich reds. Find out more about what your door colour choice says about you in our recent blog post.

A more cost-effective way to refresh our front door is to update its hardware. Why not invest in a new knocker or handle if your existing ones are looking a little tired or dated to give new life to your existing door.
