S-Class Door Range FAQs
Are solid core doors fire-rated?
Unless otherwise stated, fire doors like the S-Class range are not fire-rated and cannot be used where a fire door is required. You’ll need one of our fire doors there.
How do I look after a solid core door?
S-Class doors are built to be low maintenance and easy to keep looking good. If you follow these simple steps your door will look and work brilliantly for a long time.
- Every now and then clean the surface with a soft cloth and warm, soapy water. Don’t use abrasive or solvent-based cleaners.
- Lubricate the hinges, locks and other moving parts every six months with light oil.
- Engage the locking points every time you close the door, even if you’re not locking it. This keeps natural thermal movement to a minimum.
What is a solid core door?
S-Class doors are cut from a solid slab of laminated wood that’s built to be strong and stable. This core is then sandwiched between two thermoplastic CoolSkin layers that reflect heat and are weather-resistant. Hardware and locking systems are added last. Every door is made and finished to order so it’s exactly what you need.
What’s the difference between a solid core door and a regular composite door?
Solid core doors are built around a solid timber slab, with a PVC outer layer. Composite doors have a high-density polyurethane core and GRP skin outer layer.
Both styles are tough and durable. Solid core doors feel much weightier and are great at deadening sound from outside. Composite doors are much lighter and very energy efficient.
Do solid core doors fade?
Over time, yes. All doors will fade. How much, and over how long depends on the materials used and the weather conditions the door is subjected to. The thermoplastic CoolSkin outer used on S-Class solid core doors reflects heat and resists UV damage to help prevent fading, and with occasional cleaning will last for many years without fading.
Are solid core doors soundproof?
Solid core doors are not completely soundproof, but they are good at stopping noise. If you live on a busy street, it will probably help.
